If you are tired of how the inside of your car looks and want to spice it up without paying a great deal of money you might want to look into painting your dashboard. You can paint your dashboard, which is typically made up of either plastic of vinyl, in only a few hours and give the inside of your car a whole new look.
Purchase Your Paint
You don't want to pick up just any type of paint. Some paint will crack in the sunlight or not adhere to the dashboard material. You may have to go to a crafts store, but you want paint that works well with plastic (it will say so on the label). If possible try and pick up this type of paint in spray form. It will be easier to cover the area of the dash board and you will not get the brush lines you typically would when using a paint brush.
Remove the Dash
Before you can paint the dash board you will need to remove it from the car. You will find that the dash actually just securely snaps into place and you will probably not need any tools for this procedure (it will be a good idea to keep a flat head and Philips screwdriver on hand, just in case). Start by removing the area around the CD player and other controls. This area is typically the top layer of the dash and once it is removed, the rest of the dash will come out easily. To remove it, locate the area on the bottom that connects into the car. You will be able to push it in slightly and lift up. This will snap the CD display out and after a little wiggling it will come out. Repeat the process with the rest of the dash (the full removal process will vary slightly from car to car).
Painting
Spray several inches away (typically six inches or so) or you may cause air marks on the paint. Allow drying time of several hours. You will know the paint has dried when it is no longer sticky to the touch. Look over the area to see if you need to make any touch-ups.
