Dolly Parton Theme Party Ideas

Dolly Parton has been singing country music since the 1960s. Dolly's big voice and voluptuous figure brought her country music success quickly. Her hit songs include "I Will Always Love You" and the famous "Jolene." Dolly has been entertaining people for decades with her self-described "Backwoods Barbie" appearance. Make Dolly the inspiration for your next party or get-together. Throwing a Dolly Parton theme party will make you feel like a country star.

Costume Contest

Send out country- or denim-style invitations that say "Y'all Come Now." Ask your guests to come wearing their best Dolly Parton outfits, then hold a Dolly Parton look-alike contest. Suggestions for costumes include fluffy blonde wigs, super-high heels and fitted country-style outfits. You might stuff your top a little if you lack Dolly's full bosom. Take lots of pictures, and let everyone vote on who looks the most like Dolly. Have each contestant compete by performing a few seconds of one of Dolly's country music songs. If you have a lot of guests, you could assign each one a number to make it easy for judges to vote for their favorite Dolly.

Food

Food at your Dolly Parton theme party should be Southern, which means fried chicken and plenty of it. You should also provide hot biscuits and butter for guests. Serve chicken in wicker picnic baskets lined with red-and-white checkered cloths. Green beans or corn on the cob would make a great Southern side dish, too. Mix some sweet iced tea and some lemonade. To top off the festivities, serve your guests a Dolly cake. Ask the local bakery to make it, or make it yourself. Arrange two round cakes side by side to re-create Dolly's bosom. After you frost them with white icing, pipe on a bikini top. Your guests will enjoy eating Dolly cake.

Extras

The extras make a party special. Sing karaoke at your party using only music sung by Dolly Parton. Set up an area outdoors or in a large room where guests can dance to their favorite country songs. String colored lights around a porch or in a dining room to create your dance floor. Move the table out of the way, and start dancing.

Dolly's Movies

Turn the volume down on your television, and play some of your favorite Dolly Parton movies in the background. You might consider screening "9 to 5," "Steel Magnolias" or "Smoky Mountain Christmas." If you have a Dolly Parton concert DVD, you could play that. Ask your guests to vote for their favorite Dolly Parton movie.
