Doll parties are best for young girls.
Doll-themed birthday parties usually are for little girls no older than 10. They are relatively easy to host because items that relate to dolls are so readily available in stores and online. They are good for encouraging imaginative and imitative play. However, you should do more than just let your birthday girl play with dolls with her friends at this kind of party to make the event memorable.
Food
A birthday cake in the shape of a popular or classic doll (e.g., Bratz, Strawberry Shortcake) can serve as the centerpiece of treats at a doll-themed party. Serve everything doll-sized, such as baby carrots, small red potatoes, mini hot dogs, mini donuts and mini bagels. Foods like pizza rolls also work.
Decorations
Cut out chains of paper dolls and put a border around your walls. Use doll cutouts as place mats. Get napkins, paper plates and cups that have dolls on them. Set up stations for the girls to have a tea party with their dolls. Set up cups or bowls with doll suckers or chocolates. Make streamers from pink tulle and complement with plenty of pink balloons.
Activities
Have girls create matching necklaces for themselves and their dolls from craft beads and plastic necklace string. Have a dress-up pageant where the girls parade their dolls; take pictures of each girl with her doll with a digital camera and print out the pictures for the girls to take home. Use construction paper, yarn, buttons, glue and other craft items for each girl to design her own paper doll. Have a doll stroller race (do a simple race if each girl can bring a stroller, and a relay if only a few can).
Favors
Give each girl an inexpensive doll or set of doll clothes from a dollar store. Create gift bags that have a doll bottle and candy, or give each girl a copy of a doll story like "Raggedy Ann and Andy" or "Pinocchio." A gift card to a doll store or website also would be appropriate if you are willing to spend a little more per girl.
