Eucalyptus & Silk Flower Door Wreaths

Harvest eucalyptus branches from your own tree or purchase stems for your wreath.

Choosing to adorn your front door with a fashionable eucalyptus and silk flower wreath will brighten and give your home a welcoming appeal. But purchasing eucalyptus and silk flower wreath can be expensive. Making your own is easy and will cost a fraction of a store-bought eucalyptus and silk wreath. Whether you use eucalyptus branches from your own landscape tree, purchase dried eucalyptus branches, or a combination of both, you can create a wreath exactly the way you envisioned. You may enjoy making your wreath so much that you create additional eucalyptus and silk door wreaths for family and friends.

Instructions

1. Cut the eucalyptus branches, using hand pruners, to lengths of 6 to 8 inches. Use wire cutters to cut the stems of the silk flowers to lengths of 3 to 4 inches.

2. Gather four to six eucalyptus stems together. Hold the gathered stems at the base with one hand while binding them together with thin floral wire. Wrap the wire tightly around the stems several times, cut the wire off the roll, and twist the two ends together. Prepare all the eucalyptus branches the same way. If you have chosen small and/or medium blossom silk flowers, make flower clusters with them, using the same method.

3. Start attaching the eucalyptus clusters to the wire wreath frame by taking one cluster at a time, holding the wired stems next to the wreath wire. Wrap the stems and wreath wire tightly with the floral wire. Once the first cluster is attached, place the next cluster next to the wreath wire so the leaves of the cluster overlap and cover the stems of the first attached cluster. Wrap floral wire around the second cluster and wreath wire. Continue to add eucalyptus clusters, in the same manner, to the wreath wire. After four or five eucalyptus have been attached, change and add one silk flower cluster, or one single large silk flower. Then go back to attaching eucalyptus clusters before adding another flower cluster after four to five eucalyptus bunches.

4. Continue adding eucalyptus and silk flowers to the wreath wire frame until the frame is completely filled and full. When you have finished, cut the floral wire with 3 to 5 inches excess. Wrap the floral wire tightly around the wreath wire only to finish off the eucalyptus and silk flower door wreath. If you see gaps in the wreath, go back and wire additional clusters into the gaps, or open areas, until your wreath appears full and lush.
