Become A Better Dancer

Taking a dancing class can help you hone your dancing skills.

Whether you feel like you have two left feet on the dance floor, or you would just like to style your moves a little, there is always room for improvement in dance. It not only takes physical preparation, but some preparation of the mind as well. With a little bit of practice and training, you'll be dancing better in no time at all.

1. Stretch. Flexibility is important. If you're already taking a yoga or pilates class, that is a beginning. If you're not, you may want to consider adding it to your exercise regimen. If you're not exercising and stretching at all, you need to begin. Even if you're just going to be dancing in the club on the weekends, you need to remain flexible and loose. If you're beginning to train to be a dancer, flexibility is the most important factor to you.

2. Train your mind. First and foremost, you need to feel the rhythm as you dance. If this is your main difficulty, consider finding a dance instructor, or take a simple dancing class. If you're not able to, you can always ask a friend to help. Don't dance in front of a mirror; you'll want feedback from others. Learning to play an instrument or reading music is also helpful. You'll be able to "feel" the rhythm much better if you have a deeper understanding of music.

3. Practice. Once you've learned a few techniques, practice them at home on your own. Not only will you be getting good exercise, you'll be honing your technique and style. Watch other dancers on television or in other venues for new moves, and be confident to try them out.

4. Watch your diet. Drink plenty of water and avoid fast foods and foods high in sugar and white carbs. Bring water to class if you are attending a class, and get plenty of rest. You'll want your body in top shape, whether you're training, or you just want to be seen on your night out.
