Do "The Robot" Like Michael Jackson

Jackson's dance steps are often imitated by pop artists.

Michael Jackson was a hip-hop icon, whose songs and choreography significantly influenced music and dance. Jackson is credited for inventing many dance moves, including "The Robot," which he debuted in the 1970s when still a child of The Jackson 5. To dance "The Robot" like Jackson, select an appropriate song and practice your moves.

Instructions

1. Watch the video for "Dancing Machine," the 1974 hit song to which Jackson performed his robot dance moves. Find the video on YouTube.com. Observe Jackson's technique and form.

2. Choose a song with a pronounced beat, such as "Dancing Machine" or "Rock with You." Familiarize yourself with the song to follow the music's beat with your movements.

3. Make your legs and arms rigid. Move only at the joints. Turn your body, using your hips rather than pivoting with your legs. Bend at the knees and elbows slowly and deliberately.

4. Jerk your head from side to side. Tilt the head to turn your ear toward the shoulder. Return your head upright to center. Repeat on the other side.

5. Make twitchy and clumsy movements. Imitate a robot, using uncoordinated motions.
