Fall Scene Ideas For Porches

Use the colors of the season when decorating your porch in the fall.

Fall is one of the most colorful times of the year, with leaves changing to vibrant hues of orange, yellow and red before the harsh winter sets in. Halloween and Thanksgiving are also associated with fall. Use these holidays and a color pallet inspired by nature to add a beautiful scene to your porch. Before the weather turns cold, take time to relax out on your newly decorated porch.

Traditional

Decorate your porch with colorful accent items and floral arrangements in fall colors. Place a small table on the porch and cover it with a fall-inspired piece of fabric for a table cloth. On the table, place items such as gourds, pumpkins and dried flowers. Purchase or make a scarecrow and place by the door. Strategically arrange terra cotta flower pots filled with colorful fall leaves, twigs and other natural objects. A wicker rocking chair can add a rustic feel, if you have space for it. If you have pillars or other supporting structures, attach stalks of dried corn to them.

Halloween

Halloween comes in the fall and decorating your porch for the occasion can both delight and thrill trick-or-treaters. Make bats by cutting their shape out of black craft foam. Hang from the porch with fishing line or tack them to the side of the house. Attach fake spider webs to any available surface. Place fake spiders in them. To enhance the fall theme, place moss-covered branches on the porch. Turn your fall scarecrow into a mummy by placing strips of an old sheet around him or wrapping him in gauze. Of course, no Halloween porch would be complete without a Jack-o-Lantern.

Floral

Just because the weather has turned a bit cooler does not mean that you can not have beautiful floral arrangements as part of your fall porch scene. There are a number of flowers that thrive in the fall including mums, aster, helenium and the fall crocus. Fill planters with colors of your choice. Place alternating colors on the sides of each of your steps so that they line the way up to the door. If you have room, include hanging baskets full of flowers.
