Become a DJ With Little Start-Up Cash
It seems that every day another pricey piece of equipment or expensive gadget becomes the latest DJ "must have." But if you're on a budget and looking to get started as a DJ with relatively little money then you should consider taking a few steps to do so.
Instructions
1. Buy the best decks or turntables you can afford instead of buying the cheapest models possible, since cheaper gear will break, and then you'll just have to buy it all over again. Consider quality budget decks such as the Kam DDX-580, the Soundlab DLP-3R and the Citronic PD-1 to meet your basic DJ needs while on a budget.
2. Think about buying gear used, preferably from someone you know who's trying to move up to the next level with better gear. If you don't know anyone selling gear, then find a DJ friend who can advise you on picking up some less expensive equipment on eBay or other second-hand sites for less money than new models.
3. Turn to yard sales and flea markets instead of record stores or websites to find music to sample. The difference in price might seem marginal but when you have to buy hundreds of records and discs to find music the money adds up. Additionally, obscure places bring obscure treasure so you might end up benefiting more than just your budget.
4. Split the cost of gear with someone you know who's also starting up as a DJ and make a schedule to use the equipment. Alternatively, you can try learning together and even form a DJ team in which you complement one another's tastes and skills.
