Directions On Making Macrame

Macrame is made by a series of knots.

Macrame is similar to knitting, but instead of using needles to weave the yarn, it is done by making knots. Before you begin making crafts out of macrame, you need to create macrame cords. These can be done with one yarn color or by blending different colors together. Once you learn the basics of macrame you can make bracelets, plant hangers and numerous other crafts.

Instructions

1. Cut two lengths of yarn or rope so they are 3 feet each. Fold them in half together and make a loop.

2. Hold the top part of the loop and fold it over the length of the cord to create a hole. Circle the top of the loop under the hole and then bring it through.

3. Tie it off into a knot but leave some of the loop loose at the top.

4. Press the knot down securely using a paperweight or a clipboard. Take the right-hand strand and loop it around the left hand strand. This will create a loop. Pull the strand through the loop and down.

5. Repeat the same thing with the left-hand strand around the right this time. Pull it down and you will have created a hitch.

6. Continue this back and forth until you are finished with the cord. Tie it off with a knot at the end when finished.
