Art Scholarships That Are Free

Art scholarships help budding artists finance their education.

The phrase "starving artist" doesn't have to apply to art students. In the United States, there are a variety of art scholarships available. Art scholarships help you pay for your education without accumulating a lot of debt through student loans. You can apply for a number of art scholarships free of charge.

Scholarships.com

The website Scholarships.com offers a scholarship for students pursuing an art education. The term "art" is defined as broadly as possible by Scholarships.com and includes disciplines such as fine arts, art history, graphic design, interior design, theater, web design, voice and photojournalism, among others. The scholarship has a rolling application deadline and awards up to $1,000 to college undergraduates and high school seniors. To apply for the scholarship, a student need only fill out a profile on the website.

WorldStudio AIGA Art Scholarships

WorldStudio AIGA Art Scholarships are scholarships for students of color and students from economically disadvantaged households. The scholarship is offered by the artists' professional organization, AIGA (formerly known as the American Institute of Graphic Arts). The committee selects scholarship recipients not merely on the basis of past artistic performance, but also on the basis of how much the applicant plans to give back to the broader community. Awards range from $2,000 to $6,000, with honorable mention awards of $200. Awards are good for only one year, after which students must re-apply. The scholarship is for students studying fine arts, art direction, graphic design, illustration and photography.
