Silk flowers can be used in many types of mixed media paintings.
Acrylic paints are commonly used in conjunction with mixed media works of art. Acrylics and acrylic mediums have adhesive properties, which allow artists to include all types of light household items --- from tissue paper to metal soda bottle lids. Light-weight silk flowers are one of the easier items to use in mixed media paintings, as long as the right techniques are used and the correct mediums are mixed into paint to ensure the paint will hold the weight of the flower.
Instructions
1. Paint your canvas as usual, using acrylic paints.
2. Squeeze a quarter-sized drop of acrylic paint onto a palette. Scoop an equal amount of sculpting medium with a palette knife or painting knife. Combine well with the paint.
3. Use the knife to apply a thick coating of the mixture to the area where you want to glue the silk flower. Allow to dry for 5 to 6 minutes.
4. Press the flower carefully into the mixture.
5. Allow to dry for several hours to secure the flower.
