Configure Live Update

LiveUpdate is an update tool used by Symantec security products. Once it has been activated, it automatically connects to the Internet and searches the Symantec server for new security files to protect against new threats as they arise. LiveUpdate works in the background and does not interfere with your work. Properly configuring LiveUpdate for both your desktop program and your handheld device is important.


Instructions


1. Launch your Symantec AntiVirus program and click "File" at the top of your program.


2. Click "Configure Desktop LiveUpdate." Click "Enable Automatic LiveUpdate" to have your Symantec program automatically check for updates from the Symantec server.


3. Select from the following options:


Apply updates without interrupting me. (This option automatically installs all available options without without notifying you.)


Notify me when updates are available. (This option allows you to decide when an update session should begin to install any available updates.)


4. Click "Apply" after making your selection. Move to the next step to configure LiveUpdate Wireless on the desktop


5. Double-click "Configure" on the Symantec main interface. Click "LiveUpdate wireless configuration." Place a check on "Use LiveUpdate wireless." Move to the next step to set the proxy server settings for the LiveUpdate Wireless.


6. Double-click "Configure" on the Symantec interface and click "LiveUpdate wireless configuration." click "Use HTTP proxy." Type in the proxy settings for your network. Move to the next step to set the proxy server settings for LiveUpdate Wireless using your handheld device.


7. Start Symantec AntiVirus on your handheld device and tap "Tools" on the main interface. Tap "LiveUpdate" and tap the "Tools" button on the LiveUpdate screen.


8. Tap "Preferences" and tap "Use HTTP proxy." Type in the proxy settings for your network and tap "OK."
