The sideways moonwalk (also called the "side glide") is a quick, gliding movement that is meant to mimic the regular moonwalk, which was originated by Michael Jackson. The original moonwalk goes backwards, while this version of the popular dance goes to the side. The sideways moonwalk was made popular by R&B singer Usher, a self-proclaimed Michael Jackson aficionado. To do this dance, you need to have some level of rhythm and fluidity with your motion
Instructions
1. Start off with your feet slightly apart, lined up with your shoulders. Your hands should be by your sides, but they will likely move naturally when you are gliding.
2. Lift your right heel up so that only your toes are touching the ground. Turn your heel inward so that your toes are facing at a 45-degree angle away from your body. Your right knee should be slightly bent.
3. As you push that right foot down again, slowly slide the other foot toward the left. Keep that left foot pointing slightly outward as you glide sideways to propel you on.
4. As soon as your right heel is back down, lift the left heel. Your left toes should be touching the floor and facing slightly toward the left.
5. Now slide your right foot toward the left too---when the heel hits the ground, move it from the 45-degree angle back to a 0-degree angle (straight out in front), then back to the 45-degree angle when you are ready to repeat the move. Lift the right heel again so that you are left in the position where you started.
6. Continue this movement repeatedly, moving your entire body to the left as you go. Bend, bob and rock your knees back and forth as you slide to give it a smooth gliding motion. When you get comfortable, take wider strides and pick up the speed.
