Frugal Ways To Update Your Country Sofa

When you bought your country sofa, you absolutely loved it. Unfortunately, time and a change in taste have not been too kind to your couch. Before you spend another thousand dollars on a new couch, try updating it by adding a few accents or covering any damaged areas. You can also update the sofa by placing new accessories nearby that will improve the overall look of the room.

New Pillows

Accent and throw pillows tend to get dingy before other accessories and furniture. If looking at the pillows scattered across your sofa makes you want to cry, invest in some new ones. Change the look of the couch by getting pillows that contrast the design on the sofa. You can also spruce up the couch by getting fun, embellished pillows such as ones with beaded details, fringe around the edges or that come in non-traditional shapes. If the fabric on the sofa is very worn or has some stained spots, get enough pillows to cover up any unseemly areas.

Cover It Up

You don't have to learn re-upholster your sofa. Find a durable yet inexpensive fabric and drape it over the couch. Sit on it and tuck the excess fabric underneath the cushions and into the crevices of the couch. The loosely draped cover will give your country sofa a relaxed and flowing look. You may also consider looking for an actual slipcover to fit over your sofa if you want something that looks more pulled together.

Move It

Pushing your country sofa away from the wall or moving it across the room may be all you need to do to update its look. Place it under a big window if you have one so that the sun shines on it, giving it a brighter appearance. Rearranging the furniture in your living room may open the room up as well, making it look bigger and better.

Add a Few Lamps or Other Accessories on the Side

Often, the furniture around your sofa can make it look drab and worn out. If the side tables next to the couch have seen better days, consider investing in new, yet inexpensive ones; or simply paint your existing tables. Change the lampshade on the table or floor lamp to the side of the couch as well. If your sofa is country, but nothing else in the room is, you may want to get a few new accessories, such as a basket of flowers or some candlesticks to complete the country look in the room.
