Grants For The Performance Arts

Performance artists can seek grants through many foundations.

Performance art---including theater, performance poetry, music and dance---make up a wonderful aspect of our culture and society. Across the country funding for the arts is being cut and performance artists are struggling to find ways to raise money to put on productions and work on their craft. However, many associations and foundations have created grants to help performance artists.

Franklin Furnace Fund for Performance Art

The Franklin Furnace Fund is supported by the Jerome Foundation and the Lambent Foundation. Annually, the Fund awards grants to performance artists allowing them to produce major performance works in New York State. While the performances must be held in New York, artists from all over the world are encouraged to apply for these grants. Full-time students are not eligible for grant money from the Franklin Furnace Fund. Award decisions are determined by a board of artists who review each submitted artist's proposal. Each year, a new group of artists are appointed to the proposal review board. Franklin Furnace feels it is very important for grants to be awarded by a group of peers because it gives each artist a more equal shot at being awarded a grant. Grants awarded through the Franklin Fund range between $2,000 and $10,000. For more information on apply and news about the Franklin Furnace Fund contact:
