Create A Reverse Painting On Glass

Whether you want to make painting a hobby or want an art project to do with your kids, reverse painting on glass is a great way to show your creativity. It's simple and creates eye-pleasing decorations. With some practice, you might even be tempted to paint the glass panes in that cabinet that seem so boring.

Instructions

1. Tear a picture out of your coloring book that you want to copy. You can also make a photocopy of the page if you don't like ripping it out of the book or you want to use the template another time.

2. Number the parts of the page in the order you want to paint them. Include in the group numbered with a "1," facial features, leaves, clothes and any other small details that would be on the outside of or on top of items in real life. Number the backgrounds of those images "2." These backgrounds are the actual faces and bodies and the branches and trunks of the trees. Number the background for the whole picture, like the sky and the grass or the wall "3."

3. Tape the page to the front of your glass. You tape it over the part people look through to see your art. It's called reverse painting because you're painting it backward. Put the glass with the paper taped to it on the table so the picture faces through the glass toward you.

4. Paint the picture on the page from the coloring book on this side of the glass. Paint everything with the number "1" first, and let everything dry. Paint all of the items with a "2" second. It's OK to paint over the items from number "1" to make sure there are no gaps. Let this layer of paint on the glass dry. Paint everything numbered with a "3." Painting over the second layer is not a problem. Let it dry.

5. Flip your sheet of glass over and remove the tape and coloring book page. Frame the glass so the side with paint on it is covered and the reverse side faces out.
