Become A Dancer In Shows

Have you always wanted to be a dancer who performs in live shows in front of audiences that appreciate your talent? There are many options for people desirous of doing this, but the dance field is a highly competitive and very tough business. You have to be very skilled and take the initiative to pursue opportunities aggressively. Knowing what things will give you an edge over your competitors is pivotal to making your wishes for dance success come true.

Instructions

1. Make sure that you really have the talent and drive that it takes to be a professional dancer. You need to have rhythm, be agile and be able to pick up steps quickly and easily.

2. Get trained in as many genres of dance as you can. This will expand your skills and make more opportunities possible for you. For example, you should learn to excel in ballet, tap, hip hop dancing, folk dancing and the like, so that you can perform nearly anywhere. You really need to have had dance training for several years. Most dancers got started learning their art when they were children.

3. Try auditioning for a smaller dance company in your local area. If you are chosen, it will help you become an even better performer and will give you more experience.

4. Get an agent. Dance jobs can be very hard to come by and a decent agent can help you find auditions and/or get you booked to perform at clubs, special events, etc.

5. Consider doing a stint as a cruise ship performer or performer in a theme park show. While it isn't the "big time", it does add to your experience and gives you the chance to dance before large audiences.

6. Think about auditioning to be a dancer in a Broadway show. Realistically, this is one of the most difficult gigs for a dancer to get. The competition is very stiff and only the top dancers auditioning will get picked. The newer you are, the harder it is to get work. If you still think however, that performing in Broadway shows is still what you want to do, you need to move to New York City, where you will be close by to go to any open auditions.

7. Go to Las Vegas. Like Broadway, Vegas is one of the places aspiring dancers flock to, since dancers are needed for live shows. Not only do you need to be an exceptional dancer, but you have to be physically attractive, since glamorous female performers are one of the things Las Vegas is best known for. Auditions can sometimes be few and far between, so don't expect it to be easy to get a job dancing in shows in this town.

8. Find out if aspiring hip hop artists who perform live in clubs are looking for background dancers. If this is a style of dancing you are good at, work on getting an audition, so you can show off your moves.

9. Call the USO and see if they have any open auditions for dancers. Being a dancer in a USO show will give you a chance to show your patriotism, as well as provide you with a chance to travel globally.
