The first step in buffing out paint is to remove all dirt and grime from the surface.
Meguiar's is one of the world's most well-known surface care companies, having manufactured and distributed polish and cleaners for wood, metal and plastics for more than 100 years. Their products can be used to buff out paint, easily removing light to medium scratches. Depending on the depth and nature of the scratches, it could be possible to use Meguiar's products to buff out the scratches at home. If not, a professional machine cleaning and buffing is recommended.
Instructions
1. Wash your car using Meguiar's car wash and a soft sponge.
2. Apply a small amount of ScratchX 2.0 to a foam buffing pad and gently buff the area of the scratch for two to three minutes. Wipe clean with a dry cloth. This will remove any shallow scratches or light swirls.
3. Inspect the area. If scratches are still visable, apply Meguiar's Dual-Action cleaner/polisher to a clean buffing pad. Hand buff the area in a quick circular motion for at least five minutes. A hand-held mechanical buffer can also be used. This will remove most moderate scratches in the clear coat.
4. Wipe the surface clean with a clean cloth. If scratches or swirls remain, removal may require a thorough machine cleaning, and should be buffed with a rotary buffer. This should be done by a professional to prevent damaging the paint.
