Use the pigment of flowers to make your own paint.
Using flowers and other plants to make your own paints is a fun and natural process. While these paints can easily be made in the comfort of your own home for various products, their practicality as paints is minimal. Paints pigmented with flowers and other products change color dramatically when exposed to UV rays. Still, creating your own paints can be a fun and economical choice.
Instructions
1. Mix the cornstarch with the cocoa butter until the consistency is smooth and has no lumps. This will act as the base for the paint.
2. Place the flower petals into a microwaveable container. Fill with just enough water to cover the flower petals. Microwave the water until boiling, about three to four minutes. The flowers will then release their pigments and create a liquid coloring. The quantity of flowers you use will depend on the exact hue you desire your paint to be. Hue strengths will vary depending on type of flower, freshness and individual condition. Boil an excess of pigment so you have leeway when adding hue to the paint base.
3. Add the flower pigment to the cocoa butter/cornstarch mixture one drop at a time until the desired hue of paint emerges, stirring in between. Every flower will have a different intensity of hue, so use carefully so that you do not add too much pigment to your base. Mix thoroughly.
4. Store paint in a cool, dark place. Flower pigments are affected by UV rays, so keeping them away from sunlight is essential to keeping the original hue.
