Talk to kids about taking care of our planet with Earth Day craft projects.
Talk to kids about our planet on Earth Day, which is April 22. Doing crafts that involve our planet, recycling and nature is a good way to engage kids in a dialogue about take care of our planet and keep it green for years to come.
Coffee Filter Earth
Have kids color with blue and green crayons on a coffee filter. Squirt water from a spray bottle in the center of the filter a few times and let the water run the colors. Let it dry and attach it to black construction paper. The water will blur the colors and make the filter look like our planet.
Milk Jug Flower Pot
Turn a plastic gallon milk jug into a pretty planter that would make a wonderful present for a friend or family member. Remove the top of the jug underneath the handle using a knife or scissors. Create a few holes in the bottom to drain water by poking the jug with a sharp knife. Use felt, fabric or pretty paper to decorate your planter. Mix glue and water together to create a liquid decoupage substance and paint this on to your jug with a paintbrush. Attach the felt or fabric. Paint over it once with the glue substance and let it dry. Fill the planter with gravel on the bottom and then some soil and a flower or plant. Set it in the sunlight.
Ladybug Rocks
Make a cute paperweight out of a rock. Wash rocks to remove dirt and debris. Use acrylic craft paints to paint each rock a solid color, then paint about half the rock black. Draw a black line with permanent marker down the middle of the rock, and glue googly eyes on the black part. Use a paintbrush to make spots around the line and spray your rock with sealant spray. Place your ladybug on a desk or shelf.
