Building your own movable stages is a great way to save money and design a set that fits the location of the performance. With some basic woodworking skills and the right tools, you can build simple platforms that are easily moved and secured together to create the stage you need.
Instructions
1. Screw four 2 x 4s together to make a perfectly square frame. Use your tape measure to measure from corner to corner, the results should match exactly. This frame will be the size of one of your portable stages.
2. Add support to the inside of the frame by screwing in an additional 2 x 4 cut to fit.
3. Lay your deck boards across the top of the frame so one edge is flush with one edge, and all the deck boards cross over the support board. Use the most attractive side of each deck board.
4. Use the lag screws to secure the deck boards in place and cut off the excess so the deck boards are flush to the frame. The result will be one of the stages, ready to use and easy to move.
5. Level each platform by attaching leveling legs to all four corners. By raising them up or down, you can level each section of the stage.
6. Make as many of the platforms as you like. Remember to account for how many you can store and transport.
7. Place each section of stage into place and level it. Wrap the ratchet tie down, strap it tightly around the base and secure it. This prevents the stages from shifting and provides a solid surface without permanently attaching the stages together.
