Install Wilsonart Or Formica Countertops

Self-install your countertops.

Don't hire a contractor to install your Wilsonart or Formica countertops. Do it yourself and save money. Wilsonart and Formica both offer countertops in different colors and styles to fit your decor. Laminate is often used for its durability and inexpensive price. Installation of these two countertop types is roughly the same. The laminate is applied to a particle board core. Grabber screws are used to fasten the countertops to the cabinets.

Instructions

1. Remove the drawers from the cabinet. This allows a power drill into the cabinet to fasten the screws.

2. Place the Formica or Wilsonart countertop onto the cabinets. Push the countertop to the wall to minimize the gaps.

3. Fasten the countertop to the cabinet using a power drill and grabber screws. Place the screws near the front and rear of the cabinet, about six inches apart to ensure a high quality seam.

4. Place the drawers back into the cabinets.

5. Match the silicone caulk with the color of the walls. Place the silicone caulk into the caulking gun and puncture the seal.

6. Apply a small amount of silicone caulk around the edges of the countertop where it butts up against the wall. This will ensure a water tight joint and also hide any gaps between the countertop and the wall.

7. Rub the caulk with your finger to even out the caulk.
