Build Your Child A Stage

Stages are platforms on which performances such as plays or shows may be presented. You may wish to build a stage for your child, giving him a place to reveal his inborn talents. It is also a safe space for overcoming stage fright. Actual construction materials used in building a stage may vary.

Instructions

1. Cut eight 44-inch lengths, eight 37 7/8-inch lengths and four 40 7/8-inch lengths from 2-by-6 boards. Label the boards A, B and C respectively. Cut 32 boards that are 44 inches in length. Label four of them as D and four of them as E. Now you have eight A boards, four B boards, six C boards, four D boards, four E boards and 24 unlabeled boards.

2. Pre-drill screw holes on both sides on top and bottom of all A, D and E boards. Pre-drill screw holes on both sides on the middle of all B, D and E boards. Leave a 1-inch space from the side and a 2-inch space from the top and bottom while drilling.

3. Assemble five frames to form a rectangle; use two A boards and two B boards to form the sides of each frame, and join them by a C board in the middle. Ensure that the boards are screwed properly by measuring the diagonal of the formed rectangle. The length of the diagonal will be 60 1/8 inches if screwing is done properly.

4. Screw D and E boards to the sides of B boards inside the rectangle frame. The distance between the outer edges of the D and E boards should be 44 inches. Fill in the space between D and E boards with 6 unlabeled boards, spacing them evenly. Pre-drill holes and screw the unattached boards in place. Smooth over decking edges with sandpaper.

5. Make four additional pieces by repeating the first four steps. Place the four pieces to form either a square or a rectangle. Pre-drill holes in the overlapping sides and fasten them together for extra stability.
