Clean Old Paint Brushes

Paints and a Brush

Paint brushes are easy to clean when you clean them immediately after use. However, if you let your children borrow your paint brushes, they may not have cleaned them off. The paint becomes hard and sticks to the brushes making it much more difficult to clean later on. There are some ways that you can get your old brushes clean.

Instructions

1. Fill an empty baby food jar with White Spirit. Place your old brushes in the jar and let sit for ten minutes. Rinse under running water and dry with a paper towel. Your brushes will be as good as new.

2. Fill a saucepan with enough white vinegar to cover the paintbrushes bristles. Let it sit for one hour. Place the pan on your stove and turn the heat to simmer. Let the paintbrushes simmer for five minutes. Take the paintbrushes out of the pan and run under a faucet. Dry with a paper towel and enjoy your like-new brushes.

3. Pour nail polish remover in an empty baby jar. Stick your brushes in it and leave for thirty minutes to soak. Run your brushes under a faucet and dry with a paper towel.

4. Pour a cupful of liquid fabric softener in to a bowl. Add your paintbrushes and let in sit overnight. In the morning you can wash your brushes under a faucet and they will be as good as new.

5. Soak your brushes in lacquer thinner. Only leave them in the thinner for thirty minutes and then rinse off under a faucet. Dry them with some paper towels.
