Dress to Feel Younger
Are you wearing clothing that makes you feel old? Just because you're getting older and more mature doesn't mean you need to stop having fun with your outfits. Read on to find ways to enliven your wardrobe.
Instructions
1. Be open to new styles and ideas by picking up a fashion magazine every other month or so to get the basic idea of what's new and youthful. Start with magazines such as Marie Claire, Glamour, InStyle or Redbook. To find more novel looks, consider Vogue or Harper's Bazaar. Skimming through these magazines will give you new and fresh ways to approach how you dress.
2. Learn a more youthful way of putting your favorite outfits together. If you prefer skirts, look in magazines or stores for a more youthful choice, such as A-lines, kick pleats or suede.
3. Check out trendier stores, departments and labels to find younger twists on trends. Instead of heading to Talbot's for a pair of black pants, stroll in to Banana Republic. Skip Jones New York in favor of the Daryl K contemporary department at Nordstrom.
4. Update your style by buying and wearing one item of the moment each season. You can purchase inexpensive trendy pieces from a junior store or department. Every season has its hot items - a shoe, bag, color, or a pant length, for example.
5. Consider getting a new top or two to update your jacketed outfits, or to wear on their own. It might be something in this season's color, or something classic but done in a new high-tech fabric.
6. Keep purchases from being too trendy by purchasing them in black, which will make them look more sophisticated. If you have a choice between big black sunglasses and big yellow ones, you're safer going for the darker color.
