Create Word Graphics

Word graphics include AutoShapes, WordArt, charts and diagrams.


Word graphics include AutoShapes, WordArt, charts and diagrams. When you save the graphics, it's saved with your document in a Word format. You can enhance your Word graphic by changing its content, color, size, border or shape. Using graphics illustrates your work and design potential. You can choose how text wraps around the graphics to emphasize a point or spice up your page.


Instructions


Creating the Graphics


1. Open a new or existing document in Microsoft Word. Then right-click on the toolbar and select the "Drawing" toolbar if it is not selected. A task pane will open on the bottom of your page.


2. Click on the "AutoShapes" button in the task pane to expand it. To make a cloud callout, choose "Callouts" and "Cloud Callout" from the list. A callout is a graphic that illustrates a specific area of the page. Then draw the shape onto your page with your mouse. To insert your text, click within the cloud and type in the text you want.


3. Click on the "WordArt" button in the task pane. Select a WordArt shape from the "WordArt Gallery" and press "OK." Then enter your text into the "Edit WordArt Text" dialog box. To customize your text, choose a font, size or style within the window and click "OK."


4. Click on the "Insert Diagram or Organization Chart" button in the task pane to create a diagram or chart. Select the type of diagram you want to create in the "Diagram Gallery" and click "OK." A layout of the diagram will be added to your page. Click within the diagram to insert your text.


Modifying the Graphics


5. Modify the color of an AutoShape by selecting it. Click the arrow by the "Fill Color" button to expand it and pick a background color. To change the border's color, expand the "Line Color" button and choose a color. To remove the border, select "No Line" from the "Line Color" button. To change the border’s width, click the "Line Style" button. To change the style, click the "Dash Style" button. To add a shadow to your shape, pick a shadow effect from the "Shadow" button.


6. Modify the WordArt by selecting it. The "WordArt" toolbar will open. To pick a different style, click on the "WordArt Gallery" button from the toolbar and select a different style. Click on the "WordArt Shape" button to change its shape. To change the border's colors and styles, follow the directions for the AutoShape in the previous step. To add a three-dimensional effect, click on the "3D Style" button in the "Drawing" toolbar.


7. Modify your diagram or organization chart by selecting it on your page. To update a section of the diagram or chart, select that section only. Then change its color and styles by following the directions for the AutoShape in step one. Click on the "3D Style" button in the "Drawing" toolbar to give the diagram-or parts of it-a three-dimensional effect.


8. Change the wrapping style for a WordArt, diagram or chart by selecting it on your page. The toolbar for the WordArt, diagram or chart will open. Click on the "Text Wrapping" button and select your wrapping style.


9. Change the wrapping for an AutoShape by right-clicking on the shape on your page. Then choose "Format AutoShape" from the pop-up list. Go to the "Layout" tab and pick the layout option you want to apply.
