Create A Flyer With Fireworks

Create a Flyer With Fireworks

You can use Adobe Fireworks to create flyers for upcoming concerts, dance performances, benefits, garage sales and more. Although desktop publishers such as Microsoft Publisher are more geared toward print publishing and Fireworks more toward graphics design, Fireworks is still a viable option for creating print materials.

Instructions

1. Open Fireworks and select the "Create New Fireworks Document." In the dialog box that follows, specify the dimensions of the flyer. If you don't know the dimensions in pixels, switch the canvas to inches and input 8.5 inches for width and 11 inches for height. This is assuming you need an eight and a half by eleven inch document, which is the standard for most flyers. This equates to a 612-pixel width by 792-pixel height.

Specify the color background underneath the dimensions category. Make the background white or transparent if you'd like to add special effects on your background later.

2. Create a background for your flyer. If you're printing in black and white, do not give it a color specification. You can create black and white gradients using the paint bucket and gradient tool, but if you specify a dark color and print it out, it will turn out dark gray or black, obscuring your text and images.

To create a plain background, use the rectangle tool found under the "Vector" category in the left-hand side of the window. Draw a box around the entire document and specify any additional properties in the "Properties" field below the design preview.

By default, the rectangle tool creates a solid color. Change this effect by clicking the drop-down menu next to the paint bucket tool and selecting "Gradient" or "Pattern." Hover over each of these options to preview what it will look like on your document. Click one of these to select it on the flyer. You can also change the color using the color selection tool next to the paint bucket icon in the "Properties" field.

3. Add graphics to the document by choosing the "File -> Import" option and selecting an image. After choosing this command, use your cursor to draw the size area where the image should appear. The more you click and drag the mouse, the bigger the image will be. You can drag each corner of the image to resize it, and you can use the arrow tool at the top of the tools menu to move it around.

4. Add text to the flyer by clicking the "A" button in Fireworks CS3 or the "T" button in Fireworks CS4 under the "Vector" category. Click once in the document and begin typing your text. You can change text properties-such as font, size, color and bold-in the "Properties" field. Using the black arrow tool, you can also move it around the document where necessary.

5. Save your work by clicking the "File -> Save As" command or Ctrl + S. You can also print your flyer using the "File -> Print" command.
